Importance Of a Fuel Filter And When To Change It

Fuel filters are essential for optimizing engine performance. Like most parts in your car, they require regular maintenance. The gas in the car is used to drive the engine. However, contaminants such as dirt, debris and other particles in the gas can damage your engine. The fuel filter is designed to filter out impurities before they enter the engine, so that your engine only uses pure gasoline. However, over time, the fuel filter may become clogged and contaminated with particulate matter.

If your car starts to show some symptoms, such as reduced horsepower when towing or uphill, difficulty starting, idling idles, slow acceleration, or the engine hesitates when stepping on the accelerator, it may be time to check your fuel system inspected by a professional. Because this is your vehicle's response to inefficient fuel delivery.

Newer vehicles are equipped with a filter in the fuel tank, which will only be replaced when the fuel pump assembly is replaced. Today's cars are very different from past cars in terms of fuel injector and fuel system improvements. Therefore, these improvements make the injector more sensitive to debris that blocks the passage and causes damage to the injector. The damage of the injector causes the release of fuel to change from spray to weak droplet, which affects the combustion process. In the past, it was recommended to replace the fuel filter every 20,000-30,000 miles. However, as fuels and cars improve, filters can be replaced every 60,000 miles.

Maintain the fuel system

Maintaining your car with oil changes and occasional flushing is essential to your car's performance, but don't ignore the importance of the 4-step fuel system cleaning. This cleaning, performed every 30,000 miles or so, will help ensure that your vehicle's fuel system is used to the maximum, making your engine behave like new. Here is what you can see during the cleaning process:

Engine Carbon-Remove deposits by breaking down carbon in pistons, valves and intake air. Removal of carbon can make the valve work properly. As a result, maximum compression occurs, increasing fuel absorption.

Fuel injection service-clean the small needle or ball and valve seat of the injector to ensure the best injection for engine combustion. When the vehicle is not running, the fuel puddle creates excess fuel deposits in the fuel injectors. This service can clean up and remove sediment.

Throttle valve mechanism service-Throttle valve mechanism is a butterfly valve located between the intake filter and the intake manifold, allowing air to enter the engine, turning it on or off, and the vehicle driver presses the accelerator according to the speed of the vehicle. Fuel varnish accumulates in the throttle body, keeping the butterfly valve slightly open, affecting idle speed and reducing overall fuel economy.

Fuel tank additives-added to the fuel tank to remove moisture. The gas naturally contains a small amount of water. Even after the cleaning is completed, the additive will continue to clean the system to ensure that the fuel continues to reduce the water in the tank.

Although in some cases, performing do-it-yourself services can save you money, don't try to perform throttle body services or engine decarbonization yourself. Doing so may severely damage your engine, engine components, or vehicle performance.
